Gentle Tennessee Rain

Last night I fell asleep to the gentle tap-tap-tapping of Tennessee Rain.  A few years back I bought a CD that had guitar music over a “Gentle Tennesse Rain” not knowing that God would eventually lead me to live here.  This was a heavy rain at times.  It was a kind of rain that I haven’t heard in many, many years living in Claifornia.  For those unfamiliar with California rain–first of all there isn’t any rain to speak of in California, but when it does rain, it is this weeny, weak type of rain that doesn’t have much personality.  I appreciate the rain here in Middle Tennessee where it will in fact RAIN.  Drops the size of tennis balls.  Torrents that will SOAK you to the bone on the 15 step run from your car to the front door.

But I digress,  the rain last night reminded me ever so gently of God’s simple, yet powerful provision in my life.  It is simple because water is that most basic of elements that is necessary for life.  It is powerful because milllions of tiny rain drops like the ones that fell last night wewre the ones that helped carve out the Grand Canyon and Yosemite Valley.  It is a power that is often overlooked and underestimated. . . much in the same way I underestimate the power of God and the simplicity with which I am called to live.
